Review: Saga Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

saga 1Here’s the description from

When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe.

From bestselling writer Brian K. Vaughan, Saga is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in this sexy, subversive drama for adults.

I waited so long to pick up Saga.  I’ve had Vol 1 for months!  Then my coworker came in a few weeks ago raving about it, so I picked it up during Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon.  I could not put it down.

Alana and Marko are true star-crossed lovers.  They were born on warring planets, fell in love, had a baby, and are now on the run.  And they are AWESOME.  There are strange creatures, bounty hunters, whole worlds to discover.  And did I mention that they can both kick some serious ass??

I reminded me of like…. Buffy meets Star Wars??

I also need to point out the level of diversity in this comic.  There are people of all colors.  There is breastfeeding.  There is a very strong-willed female main character.

I cannot wait to get more into these comics.  They are fantastic and definitely something you should pick up if you are new to comics and don’t know where to get started.

About Kelly

Hi! My name’s Kelly. I’m a twenty-something gal from Buffalo, NY. Mom to a little dog named Peabody and a slightly evil cat named Archie. Engaged to the best dude ever. I love books and craft beer! I also love all things France and francophone and have a degree in French Language and Literature from Buffalo State College. My blog used to be called Kelly’s France Blog, but I finally decided it needed a change because I wasn’t posting about French things nearly as often as I used to! You can still see all my imported posts on A Book and a Beer, or you can visit my original blog at
