Currently Reading

I’m usually reading at least 2 books at any given time.  I like to have multiple going because I’m a mood reader.  Also, sometimes a book is so fantastic that I read just a bit at a time because I want to prolong the experience as long as possible.

This weekend I’m reading 2 books.  I’ve just picked up Tampa by Alissa Nutting, which is our current pick for book club.  It was my turn to pick, and I’d been trying to get other members to choose it on their turn for months (to no avail..).  So finally my turn came and of course I chose it!  I know it’s got some, well, interesting scenes.  But it is going to give us so much to talk about!

My other read is Yannick Grannec’s The Goddess of Small Victories, which was translated from French.  It is amazing.  Literally from the moment I started reading it I knew it was going to be one of those really special books.  I’ve been slowly reading it for the last week.  I don’t want it to end!!  It comes out in October (I think?) from Other Press.
Also just a side note.  I was a bit flabbergasted when I realized that the author is a woman.  I work with Quebecois every day via phone calls and email.  And I’ve got a few Yannick customers.  And they are all male.  So I just assumed it was a boy name.  So did my coworker.  But apparently it is also a girl’s name.  So NOW i can’t even assume all the Yannicks I work with are guys!  So complicated French, so complicated!  (another name that is really misleading-Jocelyn.  I always always always associated this name with women, but I’ve taken a few calls from male Jocelyns.)
So that’s my weekend!  What are you reading?

About Kelly

Hi! My name’s Kelly. I’m a twenty-something gal from Buffalo, NY. Mom to a little dog named Peabody and a slightly evil cat named Archie. Engaged to the best dude ever. I love books and craft beer! I also love all things France and francophone and have a degree in French Language and Literature from Buffalo State College. My blog used to be called Kelly’s France Blog, but I finally decided it needed a change because I wasn’t posting about French things nearly as often as I used to! You can still see all my imported posts on A Book and a Beer, or you can visit my original blog at
